Interviewed by Rusty & Jan for "The Philly Folk Scene", WPPM 106.5 FM. March 19, 2026
Michael London and Friends combine humor, warmth and exceptional playing to inspire the audience in concerts for the whole family. London’s voice was described by one listener as “one of the most soothing and lovely voices I have ever experienced”.
This soul stirring band features Michael London on vocals and guitar, Paul Butler on sax & clarinet, Larry Cohen on bass and Bill Marconi on drums. The interplay of these fine musicians–some of Philadelphia’s best–with Michael’s tunes as well as classic folk, jazz, and blues songs, transforms and elevates them.
Michael’s original songs uplift us to live with passion and true joy and make tangible our connection to the self, humanity, nature and beyond. Some of the songs are inspired by the poetry of RUMI, a 13th century Sufi saint. The experience of the band is a sensual, rich, emotionally-filled sound that is both contemplative and high energy with phenomenal performances from the players and even the audience, who often are moved to sing and take part. The interplay between his guitar and the musicians who back him up is by turns jazzy, mysterious, tranquilizing and otherworldly.
"I heard Michael's music for the first time on WXPN and was blown away by the ways in which he wove the exquisite poetry of Rumi with his own inspired musical creations. Hearing him in concert less than a week later, the intensity of the passion and magic increased 100-fold. Sitting in the audience, surrounded by souls listening with rapt attention, I was moved with a certainty that the poet himself was whispering in Michael's ear throughout the performance. At turns, deeply peaceful and vibrantly energetic. What a gift!" - Edie Weinstein Moser LSW
